This artwork is a silhouette that is made up of photographs of different types of flowers. For example the colours of the flowers are white blue and yellow. This silhouette is in the shape of Stephenson’s rocket that is a steam train. On the left hand side of the silhouette there is a large single wheel. Above the wheel there is a tall narrow chimney that curves out of the front of the body of the steam train. Next there is a boxy square shape. In the middle of the Silhouette there is a square shape with a curved edge. This shake then merges into a platform shape. Next to this on the right hand side there is a long box with curved edges sticking out from the side of this box. On top of the box there is a barrel with the bottom quarter being hidden by the box.

It is interesting that even though all that identifies

Stephenson’s rocket is the shapes how easily recognisable

it still is. This is partly because of how unique the shape

of Stephenson’s rocket is compared to other trains.

Also how people seem very good it just recognising

objects by their shapes.

This artwork is made up of a silhouette of a steam train. This is made up of photographs of different flowers and plants. Four example the colours of the different flowers are blue yellow and white. On the left hand side there is a wide chimney with a very narrow half circle at the top of the chimney. Slightly further on from the chimney there is a half circle popping out from the main body of the train. Below this there are three large red coloured wheels. In the middle ground the top of the train is raised up higher then the rest of the body of the train. In the middle of the artwork there is a roof with a gently curving front section. On the right hand side the roof is narrower. Below the roof there is a straight line that goes into a curved corner. On the right hand side of the artwork there are 3 small wheels. Above these wheels there is a large long box shape.

In this artwork I wanted to show the sleekness of the

high-speed steam trains. I achieve this by firstly keeping

the train quite thin and in particular low to the ground.

Also by keeping the shapes of the train quite sleek

and curved.

More pacifically the shape of the silhouette on the left-hand side there is a curved half circle. Above this there is a wide tall chimney with a upside down slightly curved triangle coming out of the top of the chimney. Further on from the chimney there are 2 round long curves with the top end of the curves meeting each other. Below the main shape next to the front there is 2 small wheels, next to these there are 3 larger wheels. Next to the final wheel there is a line that goes straight up at the end of the main body of the train. Above this at the top of the train there is a long wider block that goes into the right hand side of the artwork. On the right hand side of the artwork there are 2 red small wheels. Above these wheels there is a tall box shape with a curved corner on the left-hand side.

It was surprising to me when creating this artwork how blocky and square the shape of the train came out.

Before creating this artwork I had always assumed that’s steam trains were all curves rather than being more

square in shape.
